Website Observations

After reading through previous classes analytical hypertexts, I learned a little more about how to convey standpoints better. Several hypertexts I view incorporated videos and pictures into the texts that aided in understanding a view point better. Also, some viewpoints were accompanied by first person experiences that gave further insight to standpoints. One text contrasted a low wage life with life in a different standpoint to show the extreme differences. Another site also gave some background on an issue similar to what Schlosser does. Similar to Schlosser as well, one student made a person in a standpoint look pathetic. Creating an emotional connection is important and helps create better insight into a standpoint because the reader can somewhat sympathize with the person in the standpoint and know where they are coming from. Schlosser also includes a significant amount statistics to help set up a background for the standpoint. Many of the students used statistics to help set up background. Having statistics also makes the author’s depiction of the standpoint more believable, and transforms the text from an author’s opinion into an actual standpoint.
