Website Observations and Notes

The three websites that I looked at all contained good features. One sight had some very insightful background information that helped understand a view point better. Another website had a very good cosmetic design, and incorporated features such as picture links that were helpful in navigating the site. A website also listed out many different viewpoints and used several of the tecniques such as pathos and background that Schlosser used in Fast Food Nation to give good insight into the perspective. The websites did a good job of writing about the standpoints and keeping their personal opinions out of it. I saw several features in the website that I plan on incorporating in mine.
Liu
People scan for keywords
People like to browse and find things by accident.
People prefer printing things out and reading them
They like printing because they can annotate
People don’t like to read linear text on the web

Nielsen
People look for bulleted lists
They also like one idea per paragraph
Knowing how credible the information is is important to people
Less words are better
People don’t like to read
People read in an F shaped pattern: Most stuff on the right gets ignored

Jerz
Putting the author and date is important so people can know how recent and credible the information is
Putting navigation at the top and bottom of the page is important because readers can move on after they’ve read, and browsers can skip stuff they don’t want to read
Having a link to home is good

Websites that Suck
Don’t have unnecessary design
Don’t make the background to vivid
Don’t make the background a bright color
