Yippies, FSM, and Punk Music
The Yippies were part of the Youth International Party. Younger teens/adults who were also hippies. They believed in Free speech and antiwar movements, much like how Marcus is fighting for his right to freedom once again. The Free Speech Movement was a movement to try and lift the ban of a student's Free Speech and Academic Freedom. This is much like how Marcus is trying to lift all of these security measures that are taking away his privacy and freedom. The punk music represents freedom to listen to anything and do whatever one felt like. Just like what the secret concert in Little Brother stood for. These topics are very similar and probably the reason why Cory decided to insert them into his book.
