For generations we were taught to believe that if we worked hard, a livable, sustainable income and basic securities would be ours. But that idea no longer exists.

Doug, a once phenomenal junior golfer developed alcoholism at the age of 25 and his professional golf career, that was once a reality, is now his past. Doug made it through college on a golf scholarship and played golf for his whole life. But at the age of 40 he is unable to play golf at his own leisure.

Doug works at a golf course in the bag room. He wakes up at 4 am every morning and works until closing. The job is physically demanding and emotionally degrading. He is the slave to multimillionaires and must obey their every will all for a mere minimum wage.

I see Doug everyday and he always has a smile on his face and is so enthusiastic about his job. He works harder and longer than anyone I know and yet he has to work 14 hours a day to get by. His low wage job is barely enough to get by but it is severely damaging his health. He is sleep deprived, eating unhealthy meals and is constantly physically straining his body. He lives alone in San Mateo and has no time to do anything except work on the golf course.

Due to the fact that there are few opportunities for achievement or advancement in the low wage work force, Doug is locked into the low wage life.
